ExxonMobil, the oil and gas company also known as Esso, will carry out its first social initiative in Sergipe by donating food baskets to around 3,600 low income suffering from economic vulnerability aggravated by the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company will donate R$ 287,500 (US$ 50,000) to provide food baskets with basic nutrition and hygiene items.

The donations will be part of a campaign named "Balaio Solidário - Sergipe without hunger" and will be carried out with the support of Instituto Rahamim, a local NGO. The goal is to urgently help families in a situation of vulnerability due to the difficulties inherent to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The identification of the families in need was conducted by volunteer partners of the Institute who carry out social mapping in the region.

The logistic plan covers municipalities of Aracaju, Barra dos Coqueiros, Lagarto, Laranjeiras, Poço Redondo, Porto da Folha, Salgado and Neópolis.

The distribution will be organized in accordance with sanitary protocols for prevention of Covid-19, including measuring body temperature, wearing masks, and using hand sanitizer in addition to social distancing.

“We are going through a challenging moment. At ExxonMobil we understand the importance of the private initiative in urgently assisting communities with greater needs. We want to be a contributing part in this process", said Juan Lessmann, Lead Country manager of ExxonMobil in Brazil.

"Institute Rahamim has been working for 20 years in the development of communities in a situation of social vulnerability in Sergipe and during the crisis brought by Covid-19, we are looking for solutions to minimize the suffering of the poorest. Partnering with ExxonMobil in this critical phase of famine in our country will bring great relief to Sergipe families in a state of severe food insecurity", said Cristiano Lima, founder and CEO of Rahamim Institute.

ExxonMobil is operator of nine blocks in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin and plans to begin drilling in the second half of 2021.
