Supporting the community in Thailand

ExxonMobil collaborates with governments and other stakeholders to invest in community development programs that help build and sustain economic growth, while also improving social conditions. We work with stakeholders to ensure that our efforts are tailored to address national priorities and community needs, such as access to skills training and health care, support for disaster relief, education initiatives and economic development. In Thailand, our corporate citizenship program focuses on education, health, local community development, road safety, environmental conservation and the arts. In recognition of Esso Thailand’s commitment to corporate citizenship, the company received the Royal Insignia (Garuda emblem) in 1998 from the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Esso-Rattanakosin Bicentennial Scholarships

Higher education and developing the next generation of scientists and engineers is critical to help secure energy in today's highly competitive and technology-driven world. Local community development

Collaborating with host communities helps build and sustain socioeconomic growth.

Women’s Skill Enhancement Center in Laem Chabang

The center was established to enhance the potential of local women and advance their economic opportunities. It serves as a training, marketing and selling hub, as well as provides activities for resource and product assessment and professional skill training and counseling on marketing strategies, packaging design, local materials sourcing and distribution channels. The center is managed by a committee appointed from the 10 communities located near the Esso Sriracha Refinery.

Electronic and Computer Skill Center

Esso established the Electronic and Computer Skill Center for electronic skill enhancement of physically disabled students at the Redemptorist Vocational School, operated by the Father Ray Foundation. Used laptops are provided to the center for checkup and distributed to schools, institutions and communities in need. Since 2013, the project has distributed more than 250 laptops to 27 institutions nationwide.

Road safety

Safety is more than just a priority. It is a core value.

"Ride Safely and Fasten Helmet" campaign

Our commitment to safety extends to the community. We actively participate in safety promotion campaigns to support the government’s public safety policies. Esso helps organize a safety promotion campaign with the Thai Motorcycle Enterprise Association, the Department of Land Transport and the Royal Thai Police. The program includes road safety and traffic rules training, distribution of helmets to motorcyclists, as well as traffic training for youth in strategic provinces nationwide.

Environment

Awareness and education help protect and conserve the environment.

Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center

To support the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center, which helps conserve the coastal area in Chantaburi province, we have provided funds for the construction of nearly 300 check dams. These check dams help restore mangrove forests, promote coastal fish stocks and prevent sea water intrusion into agricultural lands. We also support the Joint Coordination for Cleanliness and Development of Sea Beach Project by cleaning Chaolao and Laem Saded beaches to promote sustainable coastal resource conservation.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo

The Esso Sriracha Refinery has continuously supported the zoo outreach program and youth leadership camp where participants connect with and learn about sustainable wildlife and environmental conservation. We have also supported the installation of signage to help educate and raise awareness of tiger conservation.

Volunteering and charitable giving are integral to ExxonMobil’s culture.

Charitable giving and volunteerism

Employees have donated more than 4,000 scholarships to students in Laem Chabang communities through the Esso Sriracha Refinery Educational Fund, established in 1999. Each year, more than 150 employees and their families join Day of Caring activities ranging from preserving mangrove forests and constructing homes for the less fortunate to building learning playgrounds for local schools. In 2017, more than 2,000 employees of Esso and ExxonMobil affiliates in Thailand volunteered about 2,600 hours and donated 3.9 billion baht to build upon the company’s contributions.
