ExxonMobil donates $185,000 to United Way, Southeast Texas Food Bank

The United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County is receiving $160,000 to support its network of 20 nonprofit agencies that provide food, housing and utilities assistance. The Southeast Texas Food Bank will receive $25,000 to provide 75,000 meals to people throughout the region.

“We are thankful for the Southeast Texas Food Bank and other United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County agencies which are working hard each day to assist the community with COVID-19 relief efforts,” said Karl Krotzer, Beaumont polyethylene plant manager at ExxonMobil. “These organizations consistently help keep Southeast Texas strong, and we are proud to provide support
during critical times like we are experiencing now.” 

“The funds provided by ExxonMobil will help Southeast Texas community members navigate hardships created by the COVID-19 crisis,” said Karyn Husbands, president and CEO of the United
Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County. “Some community partners have already reported a 20 to 30 percent increase in requests for assistance.” 

“We are grateful for the generous support of ExxonMobil,” said Dan Maher, president and CEO of the Southeast Texas Food Bank. “In times like these when the needed response is unpredictable and fluid, community financial support is critical as we have the ability to leverage funds and provide three meals for every dollar raised.”

These donations are part of a larger initiative by ExxonMobil to help and support the Southeast Texas community amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During its “ExxonMobil Days of Giving,” from April 30 to May 5, ExxonMobil supported those in need in the community, including donations of fuel and hand sanitizer.

ExxonMobil currently has approximately 2,400 area employees, and its operations account for approximately one in every seven jobs in the region. In 2018, ExxonMobil employees and retirees volunteered more the 18,000 hours across the Greater Beaumont area.

Approximately 12,000 households receive food each month from member agencies of the Southeast Texas Food Bank. We serve the counties of Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Polk, Sabine, and Tyler. We distribute to approximately 130 nonprofit agencies and partner schools within these eight counties. Additionally, our partner agencies preparing meals provide approximately 90,000 meals to people in need each month.
