Oseberg Blend

Article Nov. 26, 2018

Production and handling

Offshore output of about approximately 150 kbd is a blend of crude from the Oseberg, Brage and Veslefrikk fields. ExxonMobil markets approximately 5 kbd of this production. The Crude oil is transported by a 700 kbd pipeline to the Norwegian coast (Sture Terminal) for loading.

Load Port Data

Sture Terminal (60°, 37' N, 4° 51' E) lies 130 km northwest of Bergen on the west coast of Norway, and it has 5 million barrels of crude oil storage with loading capacity of 700,000 b/d and a maximum vessel size of 300,000 deadweight tons.

Since the grade is piped to the deepwater terminal at Sture on the Norwegian coast, it can be shipped relatively easily outside of its natural market in northwest Europe, with the U.S., Mediterranean and Asia Pacific often providing outlets.

Typical characteristics

Oseberg is a light, intermediate low-sulfur North Sea crude oil similar in quality to Brent.

  • Gravity 39.6
  • Sulfur 0.20%
  • Loading port Sture
