powering progress
The role of chemical products
Demand for auto parts, housing materials, electronics and other products made from petrochemicals continues to grow. We produce a range of advanced plastics and products that meet today’s societal challenges and help manufacturers reduce energy use, emissions and waste.

pounds of advanced plastic recycling capacity planned to be built by year-end 2026Rethinking recycling
We believe advanced recycling is a necessary complement to mechanical recycling to help meet the growing demand for circularity. Simply put, advanced recycling:
- Converts difficult-to-recycle plastics back into virgin quality raw materials that can be used to make new products
- Enables a broader range of plastics to be recycled
We recently started up a large-scale advanced recycling facility at the site – one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America, capable of processing more than 80 million pounds of plastic waste per year.
Beyond Baytown, we plan to expand annual advanced recycling capacity to 1 billion pounds by year-end 2026 across multiple sites globally.
At ExxonMobil, we are focusing a significant portion of our industry-leading R&D capabilities on developing performance products that enable reductions in plastic waste, as well as technology options that convert plastic waste to valuable products through advanced recycling.
